About

Over the past year I've led the digital transformation of the finance function at NORA, Ireland's strategic oil reserve body — rebuilding how we handle month-end reporting, tax filing, receivables and cash management. A two-day annual reconciliation is now a single refresh. A multi-worksheet investment-tracking process used across the team is now one automated workbook. Month-end variance analysis has been rebuilt as a live dashboard. The tools are Power Query, Power Automate, Copilot and, increasingly, agentic workflows.

I build outside work too, using Claude and Claude Code. The foundation under all of it is five years of real finance: a €100M+ levy portfolio, FX execution, cashflow forecasting, and VAT compliance across three jurisdictions, backed by the ACCA qualification. I understand the finance because I've done the finance — which is what makes the automation worth trusting.

What I do at NORA

Finance-function automation, in production at a statutory body. Internal systems, so described rather than linked.

Annual reconciliation
Two days of manual, multi-source work → one refresh. Power Query + Excel.
Investment tracker
Several disconnected worksheets → one automated workbook, now used across the finance team. Power Query + Power Automate.
Month-end variance
Static management accounts → a live exception-flagging dashboard. A rebuild of the monthly reporting pack.

A dependency-free dashboard on Irish government borrowing costs and debt sustainability — debt vs GDP/GNI*, corporation-tax concentration, ECB rate and 10Y spreads — with a reconciliation check against known anchors.

Golf trip leaderboards
Live multi-device scoring for golf trips and society events — YIPS Cup, Esker Hills, Cyprus, the Shanker Cup. Every phone sees each score the moment it's entered. One sold so far; now offering it to club pros and societies for their trips.

My own shot tracker. A photo of my official score from the Golf Ireland app is read by Claude vision to set the 18 hole scores; I then add shot-by-shot detail to find where strokes are lost.

Health — training, food and body log
An installable phone app I built for my own use. Workouts and meals logged in plain text are structured by AI, which then suggests next session's weights, tracks protein remaining for the day, plans the week's meals from what's in the fridge and builds the shopping list. The API key stays server-side behind a Worker.

World Cup sweepstake
A live sweepstake for the 2026 World Cup, 29 entrants. Results came from two independent score feeds, with API calls scheduled to fit a 10-a-day free tier; team names were reconciled across sources, and every stored score and goalscorer was checked against Wikipedia's match records.
